AcupunctureAcupuncture and acupressure are considered to be effective forms of massage therapy for pain relief, but what happens when they’re combined with modern neurology?

Acupuncture has been a staple of traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years. It was viewed as an alternative to Western medicine in the U.S. in the 1970s, and in 1996, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued its seal of approval on the practice.

Electro Therapy Point Stimulation or ETPS (also known as Microcurrent Point Stimulation) is a relatively new form of neuro-mechanical acupuncture used for the treatment of acute or chronic soft tissue pain. It employs a handheld device that focuses concentrated, direct current (DC) stimulation to key acupuncture and trigger points on the human body.

The micro-amperage conveyed through the ETPS device’s metal tip stimulates points on the body that correlate to specific nerves, muscles, and tissue where pain occurs. The process is painless, and the direct current flow actually mirrors the flow of electrons in the nervous system.

ETPS therapy helps relax muscles and calm the nervous system. It promotes circulation and allows the body to release endorphins that naturally ease pain. It’s considered to be an effective treatment for back pain, whiplash, TMJ, fibromyalgia, migraines and headaches, sports injuries, carpal tunnel, shoulder pain, and other neuromyofascial pain syndromes.

Physical discomfort often starts to decrease in as few as two ETPS sessions, though some individuals may require ongoing massage treatment based on the severity of their conditions.

ETPS is also an effective form of scar and adhesion therapy. Micro-currents help relax tissues that have tightened due to scarring, and over time, less restriction can improve the visible appearance of scarring.

Electro Therapy Point Stimulation is just one of the therapy techniques offered by The Chiropractic Office of Dr. Gary Gendron in Bonita Springs, Florida.
