Golfer's ElbowFlorida is the number 1 ranked state to play golf in the United States. It is no wonder that we have one of the highest incidents of complaints of “Golfer’s elbow” as well.

No matter how much you love the game, golfer’s elbow will keep you off the course as playing further will exacerbate the problem.

What does Golfer’s Elbow feel like?

The condition can present as mild to severe pain on the inside area of the elbow. The repetitive motion of a golf swing can lead to damaged tendons and muscles. This can also occur in tennis, weight training, and even sports like baseball.

Tenderness and pain may extend down the forearm and lead to feelings of weakness in both the wrist and hand. The elbow joint feels stiff and you may experience numbness and tingling in the hand centered in the pinky and ring fingers. This type of injury can interfere with more than just your golf score.

Pain is often made worse by:

  • Swinging motion of a golf club
  • Shaking hands
  • Lifting weights
  • Twisting a door handle
  • Picking up items, palm down
  • Flexing your wrists

Is recovery possible?

Rest will help, and home care is your first line of defense. If rest and ice do not seem to do the trick visiting your chiropractor is a wise move. They are able to treat the discomfort while helping to heal the underlying injury.

While many of us think of chiropractic adjustments as being for the neck, back and spine the elbow, arm, wrist, and shoulder can also be adjusted. Your doctor may do adjustments at the site of the injury in the elbow as well as in the spine to get the best possible results. At home stretching and ice and heat therapy will also be recommended.

In addition to adjustments, muscle release therapy may be used to help alleviate inflammation in contracted tissue. This treatment can help break up tightness and adhesions by applying direct pressure and at the same time performing active and passive stretch movements.
